There are a couple of third-party precision touchpad drivers available as a workaround. Working in Excel where you need to frequently select cells across rows and columns is a nightmare! The precision trackpad you normally experience on a Mac is non-existent in Boot Camp. However, the trackpad performance is awful. While there is sporadic latency, Windows 10 is fully functional and usable.

In Boot Camp, Windows 10 runs relatively well on my 12-inch MacBook. I did download a trial version of Parallels Desktop to see how bad running a Windows 10 VM on it was and it was bad! The VM ran extremely slow and performance was choppy … I did more waiting than working! Just to be clear, I did expect that as my 12-inch MacBook is a base model 2016 edition and just meets the minimum system requirements to run a VM in Parallels Desktop. While I would prefer running Windows 10 virtually using Parallels Desktop (and be able to jump between macOS and Windows seamlessly), my 12-inch MacBook is far under-powered to run the virtual machine.

Since the introduction of Boot Camp, I’ve only used it twice … once on an iMac to run Windows XP Pro and currently on a 12-inch MacBook running Windows 10 Pro. Through Boot Camp, you can harness the power of your Mac hardware to run Windows 10 fairly well especially in cases where your Mac hardware might be older and lack the power to run a Windows 10 VM well using virtualization software like Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion. If you need to run Windows 10 on an Intel-based Mac, Boot Camp is still a viable option.
